Shillong, January 20:: The North Shillong MLA has said that there is no point in celebrating the milestone of 50 Years of Statehood when not even one point of demand could be made into reality even up to this day.
Adelbert Nongrum has expressed this while speaking with media persons at Malki Ground, the place where a public representative he has chosen to express his protest against the inability of the present MDA Government in implementing his five points of demand and one from these demands, the Cabinet Ministers of the Government had just recently approved for implementation. With regard to the reservation policy, Nongrum feels the need to express that even after 50 years, the same policy has been followed and the time is ripe now to change it even though some have expressed that this is a point that is most crucial and therefore quite a sensitive matter, but as a representative, Nongrum has demanded that the time is ripe to revamp it.
As a suggestion in bringing about a change in the reservation policy, Nongrum has suggested to the State Government that the change that it can begin with can be in the education sector by allowing it to be open for all.
With regard to the boundary resolution, Nongrum expressed that it is important for the joint cadre with Assam for Central examinations to be stopped and a separate cadre for Meghalaya is started, which he leaves to the wisdom of the State Government in making a reality and if the demand cannot be made into a reality, then it is important to take the developmental schemes and implement them abundantly in the villages in the interstate border area with Assam.
With regard to the other demand of relocating the residents of Them Ïew Mawlong, this is an issue that has remained pending and the State Government should have taken stringent action as it is illegal by now for the people to keep residing in the area and the government departments should provide an alternate place of residence for them.
