HEADLINES

The Chief Minister of Meghalaya,Conrad K.Sangma had clearly stated that it is difficult for the state government to reduce the tax on fuel as it is already running at a loss of about Rs.100 Crores from the discounted 20% tax at present.

The hike in fuel prices on every consecutive day has been continuing all over India and in Meghalaya as of the 3rd of November,202, the price of petrol is between Rs.103-Rs.105 per litre in almost all the districts of the state.

Speaking with mediapersons today, Sangma said that as stated much earlier, the Government of Meghalaya has been charging the lowest taxes for fuel compared to other parts of the country. He stated as well that in the past years, the Government would collect more than Rs.500 Crs worth in taxes from petrol pumps but with the discounted tax rate, the government now collects only Rs.400 Crs and is at a loss of over Rs.100 Crs compared to the past years.
