SHILLONG, January 19: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) met with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya to urge upon him to extend a special recognition to the Hill State Movement volunteers by initiating an old age pension for them and also felicitating them.
The President of the HSPDP, K.P Pangniang said that the party has collected the names of upto 243 volunteers who have played a part in the struggle for Statehood and from amongst these volunteers, some were imprisoned for 2 months and some upto 6 months. He said that there were 6 leaders and 73 other volunteers who led the struggle at that point of time.
He said that the HSPDP has demanded from the Government to honour the name of H.S Lyngdoh as a hero who fought tirelessly for Meghalaya Statehood and who served as an MLA for 53 years as a mark of remembering and honouring this great personality.
