HEADLINES

Sitapur, UP: A shocking incident unfolded in the Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh when a headmaster, already under probe for alleged harassment of a woman teacher, assaulted a senior education officer inside his office on Tuesday evening.

The accused, identified as Brijendra Kumar Verma, headmaster of a primary school in Nadwa Visheshwarganj, Mahmudabad block, had been summoned to the office of Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Akhilesh Pratap Singh to submit his explanation. Sources said Singh was not satisfied with Verma’s response, sparking a heated verbal exchange that escalated quickly.

According to eyewitnesses and CCTV footage, Verma suddenly threw a file on the officer’s desk, removed his belt, and began whipping Singh repeatedly — reportedly at least six times within seconds. The footage also shows office staff rushing in to intervene as Singh struggled to shield himself.

When Singh attempted to call the police, Verma allegedly snatched away his mobile phone, tore important government documents, and even clashed with staff member Prem Shankar Maurya, who tried to stop him.

Police soon arrived at the scene and arrested Verma. Station In-Charge Anup Shukla confirmed the recovery of key evidence, including the damaged phone, torn files, and the belt used in the assault. He said a case is being registered based on the BSA’s complaint and CCTV proof, and further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, the assaulted officer Akhilesh Pratap Singh has been sent for a medical check-up, and in his complaint, he termed the attack as a premeditated act, demanding strict action against the accused.
