Shillong: The Governor of Meghalaya, CH Vijayashankar, made his first visit to the Law Kyntang (Sacred Grove) at Mawphlang Hima on Tuesday.
This is the first visit of the Governor to the Sacred Grove since his appointment.
He was invited by the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Pyniaid Sing Syiem and was welcomed in the presence of the Lyngdoh of Mawphlang Hima, CA Lyngdoh, Deputy Chief Executive Pynshngain N Syiem and other council members including Executive Members (EMs) Titosstarwell Chyne and others.
A brief meeting was held at the Khasi Heritage Village near Law Kyntang, where Governor Vijayashankar expressed his admiration for the Khasi people’s deep connection with nature.
He noted that before his visit, he had anticipated a beautiful place, but upon arrival, he felt that the site truly lived up to its reputation.
The Governor also said the importance of continuing environmental conservation efforts and urged the KHADC and the Hima to maintain their commitment to protecting the natural surroundings.
