Shillong, August 29, 2024 – Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday inaugurated the redevelopment of the Barik project by hoisting a high mast National flag at the PWD complex in Barik. The flagpole stands 40 meters tall, symbolizing unity for both the state and the country.
The redevelopment project, with an estimated cost of ₹25 crores, includes a pedestrian plaza, open ground, stepped plaza, pedestrian entry from the Civil Hospital area, a taxi terminal, parking facilities, a drop-off court, a restaurant with a kids’ play area, a workshop area, and dedicated vehicular entry and exit points.
Sangma announced that construction is set to begin in October or early November. He emphasized that the redevelopment will preserve the heritage buildings within the complex, ensuring they are restored and utilized without being damaged or demolished.
