SHILLONG, May 30: The Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya who is also incharge of the Power Department, Prestone Tynsong said that the department will renew all the permanent employees in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) for the position of Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD).

Speaking today, he said that for the highest position in the MeECL the appointment will be made by selecting experts in the field, and who will also oversee all the departments in the MeECL, right from Transmission, to Generation and Distribution.

On being queried, he said that currently, not much can be said as yet as to who will be appointed permanently while the approval is still awaited from the Cabinet, and may be in the next meeting of the Cabinet, he will raise this matter for discussion.

The statement of the Deputy Chief Minister comes after the Inquiry Committe headed by Retired Justice R.N Mishra recommended that the Government needs to appoint a permanent CEO or MD for the smooth functioning of the department, because as per the findings of the enquiry, there are no faults found with regards to the MeECL.
