SHILLONG, January 17: The Cabinet Ministers of Meghalaya on the 17th of January approved the shifting of several Government Offices to New Shillong Township in Mawpdang-Mawkhanu.
The Home Minister of Meghalaya, Lahkmen Rymbui said that the Government already has a plot of land measuring 800 acres in New Shillong Township and stated that this decision was taken after the congestion problem in Shillong was assessed.
He said that the Government has scheduled to have the Foundation Stone Laying ceremony for the construction of the offices on the 21st of this month when the 50 Years of Meghalaya Statehood will also be celebrated. He said that the aim of the Government will still take time to complete and the government offices that will be shifted include also the Secretariat and other Government Department Offices.
