A ‘Good Samaritan’ cum counselling centre was inaugurated at Khlieh Ïewduh on Saturday to support and guide youth battling addiction. The initiative, supported by the Social Welfare Department, was formally opened by Minister-in-charge Paul Lyngdoh.
Highlighting the severe drug abuse issues affecting Ïewduh, Lyngdoh stressed the importance of such centres in offering professional and community-driven support. He said experienced counsellors and well-wishers will work together with the department to help young people overcome substance abuse.
The Minister announced that the government will bear the rent of the facility, ensuring its sustainability. Appointed caretakers will manage the centre while counsellors will be given incentive-based benefits for their services.
Lyngdoh further revealed that the government is planning to establish more counselling centres in other areas based on demand, to widen the reach of this initiative.
