SHILLONG, December 21: The General Secretary of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Mawthadraishan Circle who is also the local MDC, Jambor War said that the 5 members who have joined the NPP, have not been members of the UDP for a very long time.
He stated that from amongst those that have exited the party, one has not been with the party from 2016, two have not been with the party from 2018, while the other two had already informed the party that they shall no longer be part of the party due to personal reasons.
On the 20th of December, members of the UDP from Mawthadraishan along with other party workers joined the NPP and these members who exited the UDP had also claimed that former MLA from Parïong, Irin Lyngdoh had also agreed to make an exit from the UDP and join with the NPP.
On being asked about this, Jambor War said that the President of the party in Mawthadraishan who is also the MLA of the constituency,H.Brolding Nongsiej had personally met with Irin Lyngdoh to ascertain the news of her exit but the former MLA clearly stated that she had no intention of exiting the party.
The UDP leader also said that the party had not disregarded the leaders as had been claimed by the members who had exited the party, and further stated that even if they are members in the unit or in the circle, the party always informs them of any decision taken by the Executive Committee.
On further queries, Jambor War said that the exit of a few members of the party will not at all affect the UDP, while also highlighting that since the party was established in Mawthadraishan constituency in 2013, exits and entries of leaders have been witnessed, for there is a renewal process of the party every five years.
He said that in the renewal process of the party, exits of leaders as per their free will is witnessed every time, and the party this time too will again undergo a renewal process of party leaders in January, in which an entry of many leaders is expected, leaders who want to work with the party after they had seen the works of the MLA.
