Dr. Mukul Sangma, leader of TMC Meghalaya and former Chief Minister, stated that the political landscape in India has changed, and national parties like the BJP and Congress can no longer act as they please. Speaking today, Dr. Mukul highlighted that in the recent MP elections, both BJP and Congress made bold claims of winning large numbers of seats, but the voters’ decisions proved otherwise. He emphasized that national parties are increasingly relying on regional parties for support across different states.
Dr. Mukul predicted that in the future, around 200 MPs in Parliament will come from regional parties, making it impossible for Congress or BJP to dominate on their own. He suggested that this shift will benefit the country, as national parties will have to collaborate with regional parties, ending the era of national parties acting as overlords.
Dr. Mukul, who was with the Congress for many years before joining TMC in 2022 along with other MLAs, asserted that the dominance of national parties is diminishing, and they will soon have to respect and work with regional parties to succeed
