Shillong: District authorities in Ri Bhoi have confirmed that Jagadguru Shankaracharya and his entourage will not be allowed to enter Meghalaya or leave Shillong Airport, Umroi, where they planned to hold the Gau Dhwaj Sthapna Bharat Yatra.
This morning, leaders of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) arrived at the airport to protest the planned visit of Jagadguru. During discussions with the district officials, KSU was assured that Jagadguru would not be permitted to disembark or leave the airport if he arrived.
The State Government had already announced that the Gau Dhwaj Sthapna Bharat Yatra would not be allowed in Meghalaya, whether by air or road. Reports suggest that the Jagadguru’s group was at Guwahati Airport and intended to travel to Shillong by noon.
An official at Shillong Airport confirmed that strict measures are in place, and Jagadguru will not be allowed to proceed from the airport, with district authorities maintaining vigilance throughout the day.
