Shillong: Two dead cattle were found abandoned along the Mawlyndun–Shiliangjashar–Nohwet–Mawlynnong road in Pynursla on Thursday. Locals discovered the carcasses at Dopjarait, sparking suspicion that they were meant for illegal cross-border smuggling to Bangladesh but were dumped after dying. The animals still bore ear tags and identification numbers.
Residents have expressed concern that the improper disposal of the carcasses poses serious health risks, warning that decomposition could cause foul odour and spread disease. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident to prevent further threats to public health and safety in the border region.
