SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has strongly criticized the MDA Government for completely excluding women and minorities from ministerial positions. In a statement issued by MPCC President Joplyn Shylla, the party said that despite the availability of competent leaders within the ruling coalition, not a single woman has been appointed to the cabinet.
Calling it an insult to Meghalaya’s matrilineal traditions, the MPCC said the move reflects blatant disregard for gender equality and rightful representation. “In a State where female workforce participation is higher than men, this absence is a glaring injustice,” the statement read.
The Congress further accused the NPP-BJP coalition of promoting cartel politics and prioritizing loyalty to Delhi over competency and inclusiveness. “This is a betrayal of our matrilineal society. The government only pays lip service to women’s empowerment while, in practice, showing disrespect and discrimination,” Shylla added.
The party said the MDA Government has failed the people of Meghalaya by denying women their rightful place in decision-making and tarnishing the State’s proud legacy of gender respect.
