Shillong: Following a resolution adopted during a public meeting held on September 6, the Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun (SSMP), Mawlai Town Dorbar, and Seng Khynthei Mawlai Pyllun have jointly submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, demanding the deployment of police personnel during school hours in the Mawlai area.
The memorandum, handed over to the Chief Minister by representatives of SSMP, also called for strengthening manpower at Mawlai Police Station and the Mawkynroh Outpost.
According to the organisations, the demand stems from growing concerns over the safety of schoolchildren, with parents worried about the increasing cases of abduction attempts and criminal elements targeting young students in the locality.
The groups stressed that placing police presence in and around schools will help restore a sense of security for both children and parents in Mawlai.
