Participating in the discussion, the suspended Congress MLA from East Shillong, Dr.M.Ampareen Lyngdoh stated that she cannot decide on whether to support or oppose this matter presented by the North Shillong MLA to revamp or re-examine the job reservation policy in the Assembly today.
As per the statement of Lyngdoh, this issue is discussed in every househould and she does not want be emotional about this sensitive matter which affects the public. She said that is wrong to say that only the Khasis are victimised for even the Jaiñtias and Garos are also affected.
She said that it important to seek the genesis of this job reservation policy as well as the circumstances leading to it and to find out if this state reservation policy is valid and enshrined in any legal tenets. Adding that it is true there is a an ambiguity about the reservation policy and whether this reservation policy was to apply on several other categories of application as well such as educational institutions or was it meant only for job recruitment.
The MLA from Mawlai, Process T. Sawkmie in standing to speak on this matter said that we should not forget that before statehood was achieved, the Khasis, Jaiñtias and Garos stood together as one in the Hill State Movement, in which many leaders emerged and added that for the job reservation policy,the Government should re-examine it thoroughly.
