COMMITTEE MUST BE CONSTITUTED TO EXAMINE JOB RESERVATION POLICY OF THE STATE: H.M SHANGPLIANG

HEADLINES

The AITC from Mawsynram, H.M Shangpliang in participating in the discussion on this matter suggested to the Government to constitute a Committee to examine and suggest on how to revamp the Job Reservation Policy of the State.

Shangpliang said that this policy is different. In the State which is inhabited by the Scheduled Tribes which include the Khasi-Jaiñtias and Garos the reservation policy is divided amongst the Scheduled Tribes.

He said that in fact the State Government should have implemented the reservation policy in the departments of the Central Government with offices in the state where they employ people from other communities and from outside the state and the Government has given too much leeway to Central Government offices such as the ICAR.

With regard to this matter, the NPP MLA of Rongara Siju, Rakkam A. Sangma expressed his strong opposition to any aim of revamping the job reservation policy of the state.

In participating to oppose the matter presented by North Shillong MLA, Adelbert Nongrum to revamp this policy in the Assembly, Sangma said that this is a deeply concerning matter and emotionally driven and expressed that the wisdom of ancestors should not be questioned and the same applies to the job reservation policy. He said that this is a different and very special decision which the old leaders had taken.
