AG Meghalaya Futsal Team Clinches Victory at Shillong’s Inaugural Big Futsal Fest

AG Meghalaya Futsal Team has been crowned champions of Big FM’s Big Futsal Fest, Shillong’s inaugural Inter Office Futsal Tournament. The team lifted the title today at the Thrive Sports Arena, Langkydring, after an emphatic 6-1 victory over the Meghalaya Secretariat Home Guards (MSHG).

Demonstrating dominance throughout the match, AG Meghalaya showcased their experience and skill, a testament to the team’s roster, which includes former I League and current Shillong Premier League players. Despite a valiant effort from MSHG, the expertise of AG Meghalaya prevailed. Sheen Sohktung delivered a standout performance, scoring two goals, while teammate Rustomwell Khriam also contributed a brace.

Fivestar Shylla, the tournament’s revelation who had netted an impressive 17 goals leading up to the final, added another to his tally. However, his effort wasn’t enough to turn the tide for MSHG.

Big Futsal Fest lived up to its promise, offering a festive atmosphere and friendly rivalry that thrilled the hundreds of attendees. The event began with an exhibition match of women’s futsal between employees of Rani Motors and students of MIMHANS, setting a celebratory tone that continued into the final. This match highlighted the growing enthusiasm for women’s futsal in the state.

The tournament concluded with a prize distribution ceremony where Fivestar Shylla was awarded the Golden Boot, Sheen Sohktung received the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player, and Kitbok Nongrum of MIMHANS took home the Golden Glove for his exceptional goalkeeping. The winner’s trophy was presented to AG Meghalaya FT by former I League and Indian National team player Aiborlang Khongjee.

Big Futsal Fest represents a unique government-private sector collaboration aimed at promoting futsal in Shillong. By creating a festival of competition and sportsmanship, the event emphasizes the importance of sport for health and well-being. The tournament is organized by Big FM with support from the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Maruti Suzuki Arena, Royal Enfield, Indian Bank, T7 News, and the Directorate of Information & Public Relations.
