TUR Accuses Meghalaya Government of Concealing CAG Report Findings

HEADLINES

Thma U Rangli (TUR) leader, Angela Rngad, has strongly criticized the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government for allegedly attempting to cover up the findings of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report of 2023. According to Rngad, instead of acknowledging and addressing the issues highlighted in the CAG report, the state government is trying to mislead the public by painting a false picture.

The CAG report indicates that Meghalaya has the highest fiscal deficit in India at 6.90 percent, with the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) declining from 7.08 percent to 2.88 percent. Rngad also pointed out that unemployment has surged from 2.06 percent to 6.88 percent, and the income levels of the people have steadily declined.

TUR claims that the current government is run by individuals who prioritize their own interests, benefiting only their inner circle, including party members in power. Rngad accused the government of being managed by consultants and lacking transparency in its operations, in collaboration with government officials.

Recently, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma stated that the state’s economy is growing and that the government debt is within the limits set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
