Shillong: Deputy Chief Minister incharge of Parliamentary Affairs, Prestone Tynsong has stated that MLAs must adhere to the rules of conduct while in the Assembly, rather than engaging in what he termed as “drama.”
Speaking to the media, Prestone highlighted that MLAs should refrain from making baseless accusations and using inappropriate language during House proceedings as he stressed on the importance of following the established rules of the Assembly.
Prestone’s comments were in response to allegations made by VPP President Ardent M Basaiawmoit against Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma. Ardent accused Rakkam of using negative remarks on the VPP during his election campaign to create tension between the Khasi and Garo communities.
On Thursday, the VPP MLAs staged a walkout from the House when Rakkam began addressing the issue of teacher recruitment in Dadenggre, which had been raised by Ardent.
Tynsong rejected the VPP’s claim that those in power can act with impunity, stating that this view is incorrect as the law applies equally to everyone.
The Deputy CM also said that if the VPP had lodged a formal complaint against the minister, the law would take its course without interference.
