Shillong: Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), in collaboration with the National Lutheran Health and Medical Board, inaugurated its World Art Day celebrations with the Shillong Art Mela, showcasing over 200 artworks by 60 professional artists and students.
Held to mark the birth anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci, the event offers a vibrant platform for artistic expression and cultural exchange. The mela features live art demonstrations, bamboo craft workshops, comic book creation, shadow play, light installations, and open-mic sessions, drawing participation from schools and the wider community.
Chief Guest Sanbor Shullai, Minister of Arts and Culture, lauded the organisers, including the Community Centre for Arts, Crafts and Culture (MLCU), for promoting local talent. He подчеркнул that art reflects society’s emotions, history, and aspirations, and highlighted Shillong’s role as a cultural hub of the Northeast.
The minister stressed the importance of such platforms in fostering innovation while preserving the region’s rich artistic heritage. By bringing together seasoned artists and young creators, the event encourages collaboration and creative growth.
