Worker Dies After Being Hit With Wooden Log at JN Stadium; One Arrested

Shillong: A 30-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after he was allegedly struck with a wooden log following an altercation late Friday night near the JN Stadium Complex at Polo Ground in Shillong.

According to police sources, at around 11:30 pm on March 14, information was received that a worker at the JN Stadium Complex had collapsed while working and was seriously injured. The injured man was immediately rushed to Civil Hospital, Shillong.

The victim was later identified as Rash Ch. Momin (30) from Shipur village in South West Khasi Hills District. He was brought to the hospital by Kaposing N. Marak and Manjoy Ch. Marak.

Doctors reported that the victim had suffered severe head injuries and was unconscious. At 11:40 pm, he was declared dead by medical authorities.

Police said the deceased was working under Badri Rai Pvt. Ltd. at the JN Stadium Complex.

Preliminary investigation revealed that earlier on the same day, the deceased had an altercation with his friend Jakob D. Marak, a resident of Ranikor. The argument reportedly escalated into a physical fight during which Jakob allegedly struck Rash Ch. Momin on the head with a wooden log, causing critical injuries.

The incident is suspected to have occurred following a dispute related to alcohol consumption.

An FIR has been registered, and police have arrested Jakob D. Marak in connection with the case. Further investigation is currently underway.
