A horrifying hit-and-run accident claimed the life of a young woman after a speeding vehicle smashed into her with such force that her head was crushed, killing her instantly on the highway at 12th Mile, Byrnihat, on Friday afternoon. The shocking incident occurred around 3:00 pm near the CTI area, leaving bystanders traumatised.
The victim has been identified as Afsana Khatun (27), a resident of Dalgaon in Darrang district, Assam. She was working at a shop near Bhai Bhai Hotel at 12th Mile. Witnesses said the impact was brutal, causing catastrophic head injuries and leaving her no chance of survival.
The vehicle, suspected to be a small truck, fled the scene immediately after the collision, triggering panic and outrage among locals.
Police from the Byrnihat Police Outpost rushed to the spot after being alerted by residents. The body was later taken to Civil Hospital Nongpoh for post-mortem examination.
An investigation has been launched to trace the fleeing vehicle and bring the driver responsible for the deadly hit-and-run to justice.
