Tura: West Garo Hills District Police have arrested eight persons in connection with Rajabala PS Case No. 01/26, relating to the assault of NGO members at Goalgaon under Rajabala Police Station, in which one member, Dilseng M. Sangma of Amokgre, Phulbari, West Garo Hills district, later succumbed to his injuries.
Police said the arrests were made over the past week following sustained operations across different parts of Meghalaya and neighbouring Assam.
The arrested accused have been identified as Anarul Islam (30), Rafiqul Islam (47), Atowar Hussain (40), Ariful Islam (30), Ashadur Sk. (21), Mozidur Hussain (22), Mofidur Hussain (aged as stated by police), and Mozahidur Rahman (aged as stated by police).
All the accused have been produced before the competent court and are currently in police custody. Authorities said further interrogation is underway to trace and apprehend other individuals involved in the incident.
Police added that the investigation is continuing and assured that strict action will be taken against all those responsible.
