SHILLONG, May 25: The Cabinet the MDA Government approved the increase in the prices of foreign liquor by was of minor reorganization and this is done to generate more revenue for the State.
Speaking with media persons,the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma said that the Government approved raising the prices of a few Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), and hence forth liquor will be costlier. He said that in other neighbouring states, the prices had been increased much earlier and the Government also felt it necessary to raise the prices of liquor in order to generate more revenue.
On being queried, he said that with this increase in the prices of liquor, the revenue to be collected by the State from liquor will go up by Rs.25 crores in a year.
The Chief Minister also said that the increase in the prices of IMFL liquor will vary from one to the other, and the increase will be from 3-4 percent to 8-9 percent.
