North Shillong MLA from the Voice of the People Party (VPP), Bah Adelbert Nongrum, reiterated his long-standing stance on reforming Meghalaya’s reservation policy, a cause he has championed since his time as the lone KHNAM MLA. Now with the VPP, he continues to advocate for change.
After submitting his suggestions to the expert committee on Saturday, Adelbert highlighted the need for the committee to focus solely on gathering feedback regarding job reservations in the state. He pointed out the flaws and legal inconsistencies in the existing reservation policy, which follows the 1972 regulation.
Adelbert proposed that 80% of job reservations should be equally distributed among the Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo communities. Regarding the Roster System, he expressed concerns, stating it clashes with the 1972 resolution and opposed its retroactive implementation. He urged the committee to implement the Roster System going forward rather than applying it retrospectively.
