260 ‘Duplicate Submissions’ in Expert Committee Report, Adelbert alleges

Shillong: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum has rejected the report of the Expert Committee on the State Reservation Policy, expressing dissatisfaction and lack of confidence in its findings.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Nongrum said he was disappointed after reviewing the report, stating that it failed to meet expectations for revising the State Reservation Policy of January 12, 1972. He said that after nearly two years of work by the Expert Committee, he had expected a more meaningful outcome.

Nongrum questioned the report’s claim that 84 per cent of respondents favoured retaining the 1972 reservation policy, saying the conclusion appeared unreliable. According to him, Volume 13, Part III of the report shows that 547 individuals submitted suggestions, but only 105 appeared before the committee in person, while 442 submissions were made through letters and emails, many without proper addresses.

He further alleged that Volumes 14, 15 and 16 of Part III contain about 260 duplicate submissions, many lacking valid addresses, email IDs or phone numbers, which he said went against the committee’s guidelines.

Nongrum also criticised the inclusion of his name in the report as someone who did not support changes to the 1972 reservation policy. He said this was incorrect, maintaining that he has consistently advocated for a review of the policy.

Stating that the report lacks credibility, Nongrum said he does not accept or trust the findings of the Expert Committee on the State Reservation Policy.
