VPP Warns Government to Address Rising Commodity Prices or Face Stricter Measures

HEADLINES

The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has announced its intent to write to the government, urging it to take steps to ensure that the prices of essential commodities do not rise uncontrollably. The party has warned that if the government does not respond, it will take other, stricter measures.

Yesterday, the VPP organized a sit-in protest at Malki Ground to voice its opposition to the escalating prices of essential goods, which have significantly impacted the common people.

After the protest concluded, VPP President Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit stated that the party will first send a letter to the government, urging it to intervene in this public issue. He further warned that if the government fails to take action, the party will proceed with more stringent measures.

Speaking to reporters earlier, Bah Ardent pointed out discrepancies in the prices set by the government and those at Iewduh market. According to the government’s rates set on August 24, 2024, the price of rice should be ₹45, but it is ₹50 at Iewduh. Similarly, cooking oil is priced at ₹150 by the government but costs ₹180 at the market. The price of beef is ₹500 at Iewduh, while the price for a beef head goes up to ₹600, compared to ₹300 in Mukachung, Nagaland.

The VPP emphasized that the government’s inaction on this issue has adversely affected the residents of the state.
