Tenkini Siangshai, a 32-year-old undertrial prisoner from Wapungskur, East Jaintia Hills, died under suspicious circumstances at the District Jail and Correctional Home in Jowai. He was declared dead at Jowai Civil Hospital, where he was taken after his collapse on Monday evening.
The deceased’s brother, Nidalut Siangshai, stated that the family was informed of the death at 4:38 PM. Hospital authorities revealed that Tenkini had passed away before reaching medical care.
The family has urged the government to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the cause of his death. After completing the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family for last rites.
