Umsning: Following the recent decision by Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh, the MLA of Umsning Constituency, to leave the Congress and support the National People’s Party (NPP) on August 21, 2024, the Umsning Block Congress Committee (UBCC) held a Central Executive Committee meeting in Umsning to clarify the situation to party supporters.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, UBCC President Rocky Marwein stated that the meeting was convened to provide clarity to the party’s supporters and leaders across various units regarding the MLA’s decision to switch allegiance.
Marwein emphasized that Dr. Celestine’s decision was made independently and was not coordinated with or supported by the Umsning Block Congress Committee. He reiterated that the UBCC had no prior knowledge or involvement in the MLA’s decision to join the NPP.
He further explained that during a Central Executive Committee meeting on August 10, Dr. Celestine had mentioned his intention to support the government to bring development to Umsning constituency. However, Marwein clarified that this was purely the MLA’s personal decision, and not one made or endorsed by the UBCC.
Rocky Marwein urged Congress supporters not to lose hope or feel disheartened by the MLA’s departure. He assured them that the leaders and members of the Umsning Block Congress Committee, including the Youth Congress, Mahila Congress, and area leaders, remain committed to the Congress Party in Umsning Constituency.
