Shillong: A truck carrying cattle was trapped in debris after a landslide struck along the Shillong–Pynursla–Dawki road near Laitlyngkot on Sunday morning. Soil and boulders came crashing down, hitting the vehicle and leaving it stuck across the road. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Just days ago, a Maruti 800 was badly damaged at the same spot by another landslide. Local witnesses said the truck was moving downhill when loose earth and rocks from roadwork gave way, pushing it to a halt. The incident caused massive traffic jams, with tourist vehicles forced to turn back after being stranded for hours.
The landslides are attributed to heavy rains in Pynursla region, which have left soil and boulders unstable. Authorities have restricted traffic between Laitlyngkot and Lyngkyrdem daily from 11:30 AM to 4 PM and 9 PM to 4 AM as a precaution.
