Shillong: The All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (AKMTTA) has given the state government two weeks to address its demands to streamline operations for tourist taxis in Meghalaya. Speaking after a meeting with officials, AKMTTA spokesperson Balajied informed that the first decision taken was to place the matter under the direct leadership of the Transport Department, with Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar as Chairman of the committee.
Another meeting is scheduled for October 10, where discussions will focus on the Reciprocal Transport Agreement (RTA) submitted by the association. The Chief Secretary has been tasked with compiling RTAs from other states such as Jharkhand, Odisha, and Karnataka to aid in revising Meghalaya’s framework.
While expressing cautious optimism, AKMTTA acknowledged that the outcome may also hinge on the ongoing PIL in the Meghalaya High Court, which could raise questions over legal compatibility with Assam’s transport laws. Despite these complexities, AKMTTA remains hopeful that its demands will soon be fulfilled.
