Three BJP MLAs seek ticket for Shillong MP bypoll: President

Shillong: The president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Meghalaya unit, Rikman G Momin said the party is currently examining candidates for the Lok Sabha seat from the Shillong Parliamentary Constituency, as multiple aspirants have applied for the ticket.

According to Momin, around seven prominent figures from the state have sought the BJP ticket to contest the upcoming by-election from Shillong, which is expected to be held in the coming months. He said that after scrutiny, the party will forward its recommendations to the central leadership for final approval.

He further revealed that three sitting MLAs are among those seeking the ticket, while others include former legislators and well-known public figures. However, he declined to disclose their names. At present, the BJP has two MLAs in the state Assembly – Sanbor Shullai and AL Hek.

Momin added that the party will carefully assess candidates based on integrity, capability, and public connect before finalising its nominee.

He also indicated that several prominent leaders from the state are likely to join the party in the coming days.
