Shillong: Senior National People’s Party (NPP) leader and Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has said that the delay in announcing the party’s candidate for the MP election is due to the large number of ticket aspirants.
Speaking on Tuesday, Dhar stated that the party will carefully scrutinise and select one candidate from among the many contenders seeking to contest the upcoming by-election from the Shillong Parliamentary Constituency.
He, however, declined to reveal any names, noting that the party will hold internal discussions and thoroughly examine all applicants before finalising its nominee.
The by-election to the Shillong Parliamentary Constituency is expected to be held in August this year, following the sudden demise of Dr. Ricky AJ Syngkon in February.
