THIS GOVERNMENT IS LIKE A WOLF IN SHEEP’S CLOTHING: CHARLES MARNGAR

HEADLINES

Shillong: The Opposition in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has expressed its dissatisfaction with regard to the oppression by the Chief Minister of Meghalaya relating to the resolution of the border dispute with Assam.

In raising the motion for an elaborate discussion on this matter, the Congress MDC from Mawhati constituency, Charles Marngar expressed that this action is an act of oppression, disrespect and a violation of the power vested on the District Council as per Para 12(A) of the Sixth Schedule.

Marngar finds it surprising that the State Government as per the report of the inspection committees constituted to inspect the disputed border areas recognises the himas and also collects the census in these places but yet refuses to recognise the KHADC which is the highest authority of these himas, and if this continues, an atmosphere of fear emerges as to what may happen to the other 6 sites of dispute left to be resolved.

Marngar also expressed in the house that this action makes him fearful that the Chief Minister may oppress, disrespect and forcefully violate it, while danger awaits for Block 1 and 2.

Having found and seen this so far, Marngar said that if it continues in this manner then maybe the Council will have to take steps to stand as one and come forward, as this Government is without a doubt just like a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
