Shillong: The government did not shy away from anything, in fact the Speaker is following rules and procedures of conduct of business, said Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday after the allegations made by the opposition’s Voice of the People Party (VPP) against the house.
The VPP has alleged that that the government is shying away from its responsibility by cutting down on the number of days for private members business and restricting timings for members to debate on issues during the ongoing the budget session and has threaten to hit the streets in protest after they are unable to table the motion of Roster System in the House.
Speaking to reporters, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said, “we have not shy from anything infact the time and rules are there as per the rules and procedures of conduct of business all of this is there in the rule book”.
The CM also mentioned that Rule book specifically mentioned that on Friday the house will function from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
“Some part of the oppositions have stressed on the rules many a times, they say that rules should be followed. That is exactly what the Speaker is doing, he is going as per the rules and Business Advisory Committee’s decisions all the points have been mentioned base on that”, added the CM.
“There are many occasions where they can speak on these issues, there is the Governor’s address, the debate on Governor’s address, the special motions and short discussions…so many options are there. The members are free to raise any issues at any time”, further added the Chief Minister.
He reiterates that any issues brought by the Members the government has always discussed the matters and have not shy away from anything.
CM deferred to make comments on the confusion of the Roster System referring to 1972 resolution stating that before making any comment he has to know what the confusion is and the subject requires specific details.
