Deputy Chief Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Bah Pynshngaiñ N Syiem, stated that certain political leaders believe only the State Government, District Authorities, Block Officers, and village administration are needed, advocating for the dissolution of the District Council, Hima, and Raid systems.
He made this statement during a meeting to strengthen the Hima under the Synjuk ki Hima Khasi (Federation of Khasi State) held on October 4 at the Khasi Nation Dorbar Hall, Mawkhar.
When questioned, Bah Pynshngaiñ, without naming anyone, mentioned that he had heard some political leaders express that they prefer governance only by the State Government, Deputy Commissioner’s office, Block Development Officers, and village councils, without the involvement of the District Council, Hima, Raid, and Shnong.
The Congress MDC stated that this approach is unworkable as the existing system, which has been established for so long, should remain firm and function with cooperation between the State Government, District Council, Hima, Raid, and village councils. Strengthening the current structure is essential.
