Tourism Minister of Meghalaya, Paul Lyngdoh, stated that a government-appointed committee, headed by the Director of the Tourism Department, will meet with local taxi drivers before submitting recommendations to the government. Speaking today, Lyngdoh mentioned that discussions have already taken place, with further meetings planned for this week, after which the committee will present its suggestions.
This follows a recent protest by the All Meghalaya Khasi Tourist Taxies Association, demanding the government set designated drop-off points for out-of-state tourist vehicles and hand over the responsibility of transporting tourists to local taxi services. The association argues that unrestricted access for outside vehicles to tourist destinations is negatively affecting the income of local taxi operators.
