Sohra, Sept 26: In a bid to elevate Sohra’s reputation as a premier tourist destination and attract more visitors, the Hima Sohra today launched the “Green, Clean & Safe Sohra” campaign. The initiative was formally inaugurated by former Tourism Minister and West Shillong MLA, Paul Lyngdoh, who attended the event as Chief Guest.
The campaign, spearheaded by the Sohra Tourism Committee, aims to make Sohra the cleanest and most sustainable tourist hub in Meghalaya and across the Northeast. It seeks to promote cleanliness and environmental awareness at the community level, reaching schools, villages, and local institutions across the Sohra region.
As part of the programme, certificates were handed over to around 40 volunteers under the Tourist Assistant Team of Hima Sohra, who will play a key role in implementing the campaign on the ground.
The event was also attended by Sohra MLA Gavin Mylliem, Syiem of Hima Sohra Freemansing Syiem, Deputy Director of Tourism D. Syiem, local leaders, women’s groups, and community members, all pledging their support towards making Sohra a model destination known for its natural beauty as well as its commitment to cleanliness and safety.
