SHILLONG, September 30: Smti Rebecca Vanessa Suchiang (IAS) today the 30th of September has taken over as Chief Secretary of Meghalaya after the retirement of Shri .M.S Rao.
After 49 years of statehood, today Smti Rebecca has crossed an important milestone by becoming the first khasi female from Jaintia Hills to reach to the level of Chief Secretary of the state.
While talking to mediapersons on the day that she took charge, Smti. Rebecca Suchiang said that the milestone she has crossed in her life should not end here, instead she has expressed a hope that in the future there should be more female officers or senior officers who will continue to move forward and or take charge of the office which is the highest in the state.
Smti.Rebecca Suchiang has also said that there will be several challenges in her journey as Chief Secretary but she is confident that a cooperative spirit amongst fellow officers will make all work processes smooth.
Further, she also said that her years of experience in the profession and having worked with several other former Chief Secretaries has made her more mature and confident to take charge of the office.
On the matter of border dispute and peace, the Chief Secretary has said that with regards to the border dispute, the reports from Committees constituted by the government is awaited While on the issue of peace and harmony, she said that there is a need to make it better because some unrest seem to be brewing but at the same time she has expressed hope that there shall not be any unfortunate incident.

Rebecca Suchiang has marked the education and health sectors as being the most important that she will as Chief Secretary try to focus on ways to accelerate the works in these departments while asserting that the same will be for all other pending work which shall be followed up with utmost efforts to complete them.
