HEADLINES

Panchmahal: Tragedy struck at Pavagadh Hill in Panchmahal district on Saturday when the cable wire of a cargo ropeway snapped, killing six people. The incident occurred around 3 pm near the base point of the first tower, officials said.

Among the deceased were two lift operators, two labourers, and two others, according to Panchmahal Collector Ajay Dahiya. Superintendent of Police Haresh Dudhat confirmed the deaths, adding that police and fire brigade teams were carrying out rescue and relief operations.

The ropeway, which was used to transport items, was carrying six people downhill when the accident occurred. The height from which the cable car fell has not yet been confirmed.

The main ropeway for pilgrims visiting the Mahakalika Temple, located at an altitude of about 800 metres, had already been shut for the past two days due to bad weather. Pilgrims usually climb 2,000 steps or take passenger rope cars to reach the summit.

Pavagadh Hill, part of the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, attracts nearly 2.5 million visitors annually and remains a major religious and tourist destination in Gujarat.
