Shillong: The State Council of Science Technology & Environment, Meghalaya in collaboration with Vigyan Prasar and Shillong Science Centre, will organise a special week long programme known as Science & Technology Week as part of the 75 years of Independence celebration and also as a part of the 50 Years of Meghalaya Statehood celebration.
The announcement for the week celebration was made on Friday by Shri.T.W Kharbuli, Project Coordinator and Curator, Shillong Science Centre in the presence of Shri.Calmert Patrick Syiem, Programme Officer, State Council of Science Technology & Environment and Shri.Banjop Nongbri, Junior Mentor, Shillong Science Centre.
The programme is scheduled to be held from the 22nd to the 28th of February at All Saints Hall, Shillong and will simultaneously be held in Tura city on the same dates at Tura Science Centre.
In the week celebration, several programmes have been lined up beginning with the inauguration ceremony followed by the ‘Exhibition on Wheels’ sponsored by the Indian Space Research Organisation in which the brilliant minds from ISRO will showcase their inventions and how to use them.
Other programmes include talks to be delivered by scientists from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), North-Eastern Space Application Centre(NESAC) with the additions of talks to be delivered by brilliant minds from the state, Rtd. Professor.W.Passah, Aiban Swer, and former Principal of Shillong College, Dr.M.Dey.
Besides the talks, a special competition,a poster exhibition, will be also held for school students. On each day of the week celebration, a special topic will also be included with the topic of the second day being, “The Annals of History of Science” to be followed by the topic, “Milestone of Science & Technology. On the third day the topic is “Inventions and Innovations” which will be a much more special day in which young brilliant minds will showcase and shed more light on their inventions and finally the topic of the fourth day being “Science Literary Festival”.
