SHILLONG, February 26: The MLA of South Shillong constituency and also a Minister in the Government, Sanbor Shullai inaugurated a motorable road in Upper Lumparing constructed with funds through the Special Plan Assistant at a cost of more than ₹1.34 crores.
The road which is 238 meters in length has been completed within a year and will be of great benefit to the people of the area especially in times of ill health as the locality is situated in the middle of a cliff and all this while has never had any motorable road.
On this day, a brief gathering was also held in the locality in which speeches were delivered by the Headman, H.B.Wahlang and C.Kharmudai, Executive Member of PWD(Roads).
Shullai said that it is easy for residents to demand or seek for their requirements from the representative, however they must also know how difficult it is for an MLA to succeed in providing all the requirements for he has to approach and search around through many government departments and the paper work also has to go through several tables.
The MLA said that the people have been yearning for this road for 30 years and the honours for the road was extended to the landowners who heartily donated their land for the collective benefit of the residents even though no compensation was offered from the Government. From his end, Shullai named all the landowners in order to honour their contribution.
