The VPP President Ardent M Basaiawmoit has stated that Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma comments during an election campaign, which allegedly incited ethnic tensions is not a personal matter as claim by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Ardent refuted the claims of Tynsong claiming its a personal matter and said that Rakkam made the remarks as a public representative and in public meeting.
Basaiawmoit expressed that Tynsong’s view does not reflect the sentiments of the public, who are unlikely to accept such a justification.
He also pointed out that the lack of legal action against Sangma is a result of his ministerial position, suggesting that under normal circumstances, Sangma would have faced consequences under the law.
Additionally, Basaiawmoit criticized the selective enforcement of laws, noting that people who are in good connection with the government often evade penalties for actions such as tinted windows in vehicles and the misuse of sirens, while ordinary citizens are held accountable by the police.
