The artificial turf football ground became at once a ground of public protest against the appointment of Rakesh Sangma as Chief Executive Member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.
The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Kongkal Sangma had in fact been at the site to inaugurate the artificial turf football ground.
As a reminder, since the day Rakesh Sangma was appointed as CEM of the GHADC, the public of Garo Hills had been vocalizing loud demands to remove him immediately from this post.
However, due to the Government’s easygoing attitude and the demands falling on it’s deaf ears, a voice of strong condemnation arose today while also shouting the slogan, “Conrad has no shame”.
With regards to this, the leader of the Opposition in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly who is also the leader of the All India Trinamool Congress for the North-Eastern region, Dr.Mukul Sangma came forward to strongly condemn this incident while stating that the outrage of the public in Garo Hills is due to the grant of ascension given to the Chief Minister’s own brother-in-law, Rakesh Sangma to the post of CEM which was probably meant to safeguard the GHADC but which instead only clearly revealed the inability of the leader of the party to avoid the intoxication of power and money.
