Nongpoh, Sept 21: Ri-Bhoi police seized a truck carrying 9 kilograms of marijuana during a checkpoint operation at Nongpoh on Thursday. The truck, with registration number NL 02 N 2630, driven by Geramsha Boro, 26, from Bhalupung, Tezpur, was traveling from Shillong towards Guwahati.
Following a tip-off about the illegal transportation of contraband, the police set up checkpoints at Umsning and Nongpoh. At the Nongpoh Nakka, the police successfully intercepted the truck and, upon inspection, discovered the well-concealed marijuana packed in plastic bags.
The driver was arrested, and a case has been registered under the NDPS Act at Nongpoh Police Station. Investigations are ongoing.
