HEADLINES

Shillong, November 28: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Kongkal Sangma has strongly condemned the attack in Shillong Civil Hospital by a few miscreants on the 24th of this month, and informed that the police have been pursuing the matter to arrest the miscreants and punish them as per law.

On being queried, he said that the Government will again review giving permissions for agitations to be held Infront of Civil Hospital.

It may be reminded that the 5 pressure groups had organised a condolence meeting and candlelight vigil Infront of the statue of U Kiang Nangbah situated near the Shillong Civil Hospital, where the meeting went off smoothly but after the meeting ended, a few miscreants began creating trouble and also barged inside the Hospital to attack a policeman.

On being queried further as to why a spot infront of the Hospital is given for protests and meetings to be held when it should be a quiet place, Sangma said that at the time when permission was sought, the application stated that it was a peaceful condolence meeting, however, after the meeting, a few people took advantage with the intention to create chaos. The Chief Minister without blaming the leaders of the pressure groups who organised the meeting said that the leaders of the pressure groups on that day had tried to calm the public and also urged the meeting attendees to avoid any violence or problems, however, the few who took advantage of the situation did not listen which led to the unpleasant incident.

Conrad Sangma informed that the Police have done the needful to enable them to arrest the persons involved in creating chaos in Civil Hospital.
