Shillong, March 21: The Meghalaya police on Tuesday informed that they are in an active hunt to identify and arrest one female suspect involved in the stabbing of a 25-year-old man in the Khyndailad area, Shillong.
The victim, Zecharia Sohthiang (25) a resident of Mawtary, Mayrdon, Umsning was attached on March 19 near Pegasus Hotel, said East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Dr MG Raghavendra Kumar in a statement.
The victim was immediately referred to NEIGHRIMS for further medical treatment and was taken under police escort.
“Inquiry was immediately initiated while awaiting an FIR from the victim/ family of victim for registration of a formal criminal case. An FIR dated 20.3.2023 was received from Smt.Princy Sohthiang, sister of the victim at Sadar Police station regarding the incident and a case was registered as Sadar PS case No. 58(3)2023 w/s /326/307/34 IPC”, read the Police statement.
The Police statement informed that since the morning of the incident, the victim had been giving conflicting and contradictory statements regarding the place of occurrence, time of occurrence and also regarding the description of the suspects.
“During the course of the investigation it was discovered that the victim had forcibly boarded a private vehicle at Khyndailad near the road leading to Hotel Pegasus on 18.3.2023 at approximately 9:45 PM and requested help from the four occupants of the vehicle to help him recover his scooty that he claimed had met with an accident at Mawprem. On reaching Mawprem, the victim, Shri. Zecharia Sohthiang confessed to the occupants of the vehicle that he had been stabbed and requested them to take him to his temporary residence at Mawshbuit village, PS- Madanriting”, read the statement by SP East Khasi Hills, Dr. M G Raghavendra Kumar.
The Police further informed that the occupants of the vehicle along with the victim arrived at Mawshbuit at approximately 12:30 AM (19.3.2023) and handed the victim over to his two relatives.
“At 3:59 AM, one of the relatives informed EMRI about the matter and requested for an Ambulance. The victim was brought to Civil Hospital at approximately 5:30 AM by the two relatives in an EMRI Ambulance. On the evening of 21.3.2023, the victim, Shri. Zacharia Sohthiang gave statement to the 1O of the case that he had been stabbed by an unknown woman near Hotel Pegasus and that he could identify the female assailant. The matter is under investigation and all efforts are being made to identify and nab the alleged female assailant”, further informed the statement.
