Deputy Chief Minister in charge of the Home Department, Prestone Tynsong, has announced that the state government will soon recruit around 1,000 additional police personnel to further strengthen the police force.
Speaking on Thursday, Tynsong said that the Police Department had recently completed the recruitment of nearly 3,000 personnel and would soon issue another recruitment notification for the youth of the state.
He said the additional recruitment would significantly bolster the police force, particularly in tackling crime and maintaining law and order across Meghalaya.
At the same time, he acknowledged that while the police are making continuous efforts to curb criminal activities, crime still occurs despite officers working round the clock. He said the government has directed the Police Department to ensure that all lawbreakers are dealt with strictly in accordance with the law, especially in connection with the recent incidents of vehicle arson.
Tynsong further stressed that the law should not discriminate between individuals, whether influential or ordinary citizens. Everyone, he said, must respect the rule of law, and those found violating it should face legal consequences.
