Assam Police from Jorabat Outpost, under Basistha Police Station, intercepted a truck (AS-01-QC-6402) suspected of smuggling 13 cattle. Alongside the truck, a supporting vehicle (AS-01-BG-9260) traveling from Barpeta to Byrnihat was also detained.
Following investigations, police arrested four individuals involved in the smuggling operation: Rabbel Amin (20) from Barpeta, Saddam Ali (23) from Tarabari, Ibrahim Ali (20) from Sarthebari, and Ashraful Ali from Sarthebari.
Further interrogation revealed a network linked to Meghalaya, where another group was waiting to receive the cattle. Acting on this information, police apprehended two more suspects near the Jorabat flyover—Sunny Marak (38) and Jyotish Kro—both residents of Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi District.
Additionally, the police seized a vehicle (ML10-C-0062) used by the suspects. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the smuggling ring operating between Assam and Meghalaya.
